The Junior Sportsman Champ is a class for younger champ kart drivers. Junior Sportsman Champ drivers are 8-12 years old. The engine for this class either the Briggs and Stratton flathead with a disc clutch or a  6.5 HP clone motor using shoe clutch (see MC Box Stock rules for detailed clone motor configuration).  BOTH motors must run with a blue restrictor plate in this classification, no exceptions.  BLUE Plates are available from our track parts man Billy Tokes of RPM Racing.  His number is 772-475-3610 or you can email him at: rpmrac@bellsouth.net  This class runs methanol for fuel.

The weight for the class is #315

Racers in the  Jr. Sportsman Champ Classs 2010 season must be at least 8 years old on December 20, 2009. (2010 WKA Technical Manual, page 9)

Are these the new ages for this year? We ran last year and run all over the state at 8 years old.

Thanks for your post.

The 2010 WKA tech manual (pg 54) breaks down Jr. Sportsman Champ into two divisions:
JSC1 for 8-10, Purple Plate, Animal, #285 or #300
JSC2 for 10-12, Blue Plate, Animal #310 or #325

The same classifications can be found under the pavement section of the WKA web site:
http://www.worldkarting.com/pg/series/ps/ps-classes1.html
BRIGGS SPORTSMAN 1 CHAMP LITE 8 - 10 Animal w/ 0.235" top & 0.275" bottom (purple) 285 lbs. Vega MBS
BRIGGS SPORTSMAN 1 CHAMP HEAVY 8 - 10 Animal w/ 0.235" top & 0.275" bottom (purple) 300 lbs. Vega MBS
BRIGGS SPORTSMAN 2 CHAMP LITE 10 - 12 Animal w/ 0.275" top & 0.325" bottom (blue) 310 lbs. Vega MBS
BRIGGS SPORTSMAN 2 CHAMP HEAVY 10 - 12 Animal w/ 0.275" top & 0.325" bottom (blue)

I understand the FDDS is running Jr Sportsman Champ as one class of 8-12 at #315 with a clone and flat head mix calling it Sportsman Champ Blue.

We are using the 2010 WKA tech manual.  Pending the race director's approval, we will run the same configuration as the FDDS in our Jr. Sportsman Champ classification using our clone configuration (see SFKA MC BOX Stock tab on the forum) and a blue plate on both motors:

8-12, Blue Plate, #315, Clone (w/shoe clutch) or flathead (w/disc clutch) per WKA FDDS classification.

We will spit the class according to WKA guidelines if we get enough karts in the classification.

I will make the age change.  Thanks for your post.
